I am passionate about scientific communication – bringing the wonders to the universe to everyone – and have organized or joined in many outreach efforts.

Astronomy on Tap in the Triangle

Astronomy on Tap Triangle is a satellite of the international Astronomy on Tap series, which holds monthly events in Durham, NC. Our events are at Fullsteam Brewery on Rigsbee Avenue, and occur on the first Wednesday of every month.

Events typically start with astronomy-themed trivia (with prizes!) and then two ~30 minute talks from astronomers on their research or another topic.

I have worked on the organizational team for AoT Triangle since Fall 2019, and have given multiple talks on my research and observational astronomy.

Three-Minute Thesis

The international Three-Minute Thesis Competition challenges doctoral students to “to effectively explain their research in three minutes to a non specialist audience.”

I won 1st place in UNC’s 3MT competition in Fall 2022 with my talk titled “Planetary Yearbook Photos”. A video of my talk can be found here.

NCMNS’s Astronomy Days 2022

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science’s annual Astronomy Days festival brings together astronomers from across the state for several days of talks, activities and more. During the 2022 Astronomy Days, myself and other UNC students presented a talk, “Space is a Time Machine”, and organized a panel of astronomers to talk about astronomy as a career. Videos of the talks are available here and here.
